I don't believe what I am about to say here today. I am going to completely disregard this morning's weigh in!

My face looks thinner, I feel lighter, my rings are spinning freely on on fingers and my jeans are comfortable. Isn't this what I should want from my diet? Why should I give a rat's ass what the scale reads?

Of course I'll do a reality check tomorrow, re-weighing and comparing with the electronic (Wii) scales. But for today, I'm content to remain blissfully disconnected from the scale.

Of course you have that correct, Bear. The waistline is the single most important measure because what most of us want is to be thinner, not lighter. If you have been exercising, muscle is denser than fat so you can become thinner while not losing weight. Also (especially if you have been consuming a lot of sodium) and not drinking lots of water, you can have water storage. This shows as a temporary increase in weight and you may find when you shed this water that your weight will suddenly drop by a large amount, a couple pounds or more. In other words,what you described means you have lost fat and the scale will also confirm this when you shed the water (by drinking lots of water, of course!). Good job!

seafood_eater: that's what I'm finding, too. I've lost 1.5 inches off my waist in one month even while the scales show slow progress. The waist measurement to me is most important because I carry all my weight in the tummy and they say that's the most dangerous re heart disease. So, like you, Buffy, my rings are loser, I'm wearing jeans I couldn't button up 3 weeks ago, the body's changing for the better.

Weigh ins can be deceiving, I only record it weekly because the day to day variation is just too much to handle.

Buffy, I'm with you on the number! Loose rings, loose waistbands are good. I was waiting for my pants to get longer. They have! lol, but yay!

Don't fret....it was just that Scale Gremlin putting his big, hairy foot on the back of the scale when you were on it. He'll be gone shortly so the scale will reflect your TRUE weight! I've gotta believe you've lost weight when all those other indicators would say so. Have a good weekend.
