Well! As I suspected, dropping the 2000cals a day thing has broken my stall. I only wish I hadn't wasted 2 weeks on it, but then I'm in this for the long haul!
My Ki Fit monitor has been showing some very interesting statistics. My calorie burn while sleeping has continued to stay at around 1.3-1.4 cals per hour. This is around 0.75 METs as opposed to the average burn while sleep of 0.9 METs.
Not only this, but my "resting" activity - sitting watching TV, reading in bed - is also on average around 1.45 cals per minute or 0.78 METs.
Desk work - which is what I spend a hell of a lot of time doing every day - is only burning 0.8 METs - around half what it should be!
Now for the good news! My workout yesterday at the gym should have burned 660 cals according to the gym computer, but according to my armband it burned 815! So this should mean that I can work more efficiently at the gym and offset my problem metabolism.
I've seen other people comment "Wow, it's nice to see my metabolic rate improves for up to 2 days after a workout." Mine certainly hasn't - my resting burn has been the same on Friday and Saturday nights (when I hadn't exercised since Tues) to Sunday night (having exercised that afternoon.)
I'm so glad I got this monitor. At last, it's all starting to make sense. How I can eat 1600cals a day and still gain weight. Why calorie counting has never worked for me (unless I've starved myself, further adding to the damage.) I now feel fully armed with knowledge and in control of the situation. I don't have to feel stupid or guilty or ashamed that the scale hasn't gone down as quickly as it "should have". I feel bad that this damage was done by my younger self, but I can also forgive that younger self - she was a confused child; also, it was the 80s, when anorexia was the in-thing.
Now I'm in charge, and I have all the data I need.
