dragonwisdom's Notizen, 04 Feb 15

I decided to try a long run (1'45") today in the mountains with some steep hills and a about 1000 stairs to climb in one section. I was not sure if I could complete it as I have not done a long run like this in a long time especially in the mountains. To my surprise it was quite easy or at least much easier than I anticipated. I really didn't think I could do it. I come from a marathon and triathlon background, but those days are long gone and I have a lot of injuries from such extreme sports. However, my body and especially my knees felt great. It was the first time in many years that I felt kind of like an athlete. It was also the first time in a long time that I did not feel my fat jiggling up and down. I actually felt "normal" and was not disgusted by my body. I felt in shape and good about myself. I must also say that when I did the extreme sports it was also not healthy, but I thought it was. Now I am trying to strike a positive balance of moderate exercise that I enjoy. I am getting close to my idea weight and maybe I have reached it at about 175 lbs at 5'9" with a large frame/bone structure. However, my goal is to reach between 165-169 lbs and at some point I want to get my body fat % tested by the DEXA (most accurate machine) as I have been doing strength training for a few month. With the diet, exercise and strength training I could have gained muscle, but of course as a number on the scale it can be very discouraging, so I really want to see my body fat % to make a wiser decision as to how much weight I need to lose or don't.

Soon I am going to walk through the mountain in back of my apartment to the local hot spring (or as they are call in Japan "onsen"). It takes about 70" walking to and fro so I will get a good work out. I am looking forward to the herbal steam bath and the different spring water baths to relax in after the long run, especially the ones outdoors with a great view of the mountains and stars. They also have these amazing lounge chairs with the Japanese shamisen (Japanese harp) music being played ever so softly. It is so tranquil. They have great food and I may have a soba soup with wakame and fried tofu (kitsune). Very healthy and low calories. I have yet to decide. I will also jump on the scale (they have better ones than at my place) so it will be good to get an accurate reading.
