Damn you, flip turns!
After mastering the 1 mile swim, I've decided that the next thing I'm going to conquer is the flip turn. Before today, I haven't done a flip turn since my senior year of high school.
Well, turns out they are a little more challenging than I remember. Here are the things that I found difficult about them today:
1) Turns out my body likes the couple of quick breaths I used to take at the end of each lap and protest the extra holding of breath in order to do a successful flip turn.
2) I don't always remember to blow air from my nose as I'm doing the turn. If you aren't a swimmer, that means that you get a ton of water up your nose.
3) I'm not a fan of drinking all of that pool water. On the plus side of this, I probably got in all of my water for the day. (Yuck!)
4) I'm not as coordinated as I used to be.
5) With all that chlorine up my nose, I can't smell now. I'm hoping that the smell comes back soon.
Flip turn goals: -I will swim EVERYDAY until flip turns come naturally to me again. -Then I will swim 5 continuous laps. -After I reach my goal of 5 laps, I'm increasing it to 10 laps without stopping.
OK, that's it for now. Oh, one more thing -- I'm SO happy that I got that huge heirloom tomato to eat for lunch. It's totally delicious.
