Fallacy: Losing weight will bring us happiness.

MooMe made an excellent point last Sunday - There is no guarantee that losing weight will make us happy. Perhaps that is why some of us have failed to reach our weight goals. We somehow expect that fitting into smaller jeans is going to make everything right with the world. When this doesn't happen we give up.

We need to continue on in our search for finding satisfaction in life. This must go hand in hand with reaching any of our goals.

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success." Herman Cain

Mmmmm true but I sure would be damn happy to fit into smaller jeans. I think it depends what is going on in your life. While I was miserable with my ex husband and so much heavier - you could say that losing weight did not make me happy....but losing the weight made me realise what was making me unhappy beyond my weight. Then when I dropped 19 stone overnight (he was a big man) I've had few happier moments lol

Very sage comments, BuffyBear. I guess you really can't be too rich or too thin....cause neither one will 'make you happy'.

It is the process not a destination.

Tracy - Thanks to jparlett I just got your joke! I once dropped 10 stone and had the same reaction :)

Pollykuz - Now, your comment is FUNNY! BTW - the sage is MooMe. I was just expanding.

Jparlett - So true. I also like the one "Happiness is a choice".

haha, you ladies are funny. Happiness comes from yourself. If you are not happy with you, you can never have true happiness

I don't think we can find true happiness in external things. Enjoyment and fulfillment to a degree but they're not happiness.

Rockie - Very true. Some of us are still struggling with whatever the physiological reason may be behind our weight gain. I'll be the first to admit I need professional help.

Uhm, very funny but wow, comparing happiness and weight loss is a huge mistake simply because they do not, I mean, they never go hand in hand in the real world. Well, be happy and feel beautiful I side of you about you and only then would you loose weight successfully.

When a person already feels good about themselves - they then have the strength to make the necessary changes for good health - and can maintain the effort!

Buffy, it took me about 45 years to be happy with me :)

Otis - I've got the impression from the comments of certain people that their happiness is totally dependent upon losing weight. It was a continuation of a previous conversation about why we fail to reach our goals.

HCB - I totally agree. But of course, on this subject I believe you may have some insight!

JMB - Great comment!

I understood your comment and I do agree that we as a society seem to think "only if___then I will be happy." As most of us have discovered, we have to like and love ourselves before we can ACCEPT that the bluebird of happiness will truly sit on our shoulders . It is hard to love or even like ones' self when we see that we have not taken the best care of our bodies...personal experience! It is with the losing of weight that we begin to see how ourselves....and are not hiding behind the mask of fat that we have put up for whatever reason. Happiness seems to come forth in the confidence we gain for success, as I believe your quote is trying to say. Good entry and certainly something for all of us to think upon....

Gwen - Well put! I'll admit I often fall into the "only if" category. Got to learn to think beyond that.
21 Mai 15 vom Mitglied: BuffyBear
Me too, BB...I am in the category of "only if" and I know so much better than to be!
