Hi. I’m feeling discouraged just due to situation beyond my control. Doctors started me on high dose prednisone taper (starting at 60 mg for 1st 14 days) to treat the necrotizing myopathy. I’m already swelling up and holding water. I know my weight will go up. Dammit. I have to do prednisone taper every month for 6 months. But I’m going to track my food and just wait for it to stabilize when it does. Also my daughter is leaning heavily on me to re-home my 5 cats (all are rescues I adopted between 2011 to 2016 figuring I would be able to outlive them in a healthy conditions) sell my house, and move into a retirement community that has escalating levels of care. I know I’m going to end up in a wheelchair and it’s inevitable, but I love my cats and being independent. My girl is really awesome and she worries about me but sometimes I feel very pressured. The really bad face-plant fall with fractured rib , facial abrasions, and swollen knee really set me back. Plus now I’m dealing with switching from employers group health insurance to Medicare. I guess I’m going to have to retire after all. This is a lot. I could barely manage to get dressed today.

I sent a prayer for you. Don't make any hasty decisions. Things can improve. Lots of assisted care places allow you to have one or 2 pets. No need to rush.

I do sorry CJ, focus on your treatment first. Emotion go wacky on that stuff and it's hard just deal with that alone. How old are your babies, and how healthy are they? Are there other options to increase your safety in your current home for now to extend your ability to live alone there? Ramps, special footwear, walking poles (forget there name look like skis 🎿), other assistive technology to support you living independently a bit longer. I'll see if I can find some of my information for my physical therapy class to see if any of it will apply to the situation. It's been a long time since I've been in college and most of my classes were dealing with students with significant special needs mostly cognitive needs but I did have a course where we visited our local physical therapy center and they had a lot of assistive devices that might be useful in this situation. It may take me a few days to dig in the closet to find the right box you know how it is finding something that's been stored away for "safekeeping".😊

Is it possible you could get in home health care? My mom, whose only source of income was a little over $700 in social security (plus myself providing her housing and other needs) was able to get an in home caretaker to come to her house 3 times a week to do her laundry take her grocery shopping, take her to her doctor visits. They were in the process of applying to get additional days when she got admitted to hospital where she later went to heaven. But, my point being, she was able to stay in her house with her cat for much longer than i wanted her to with this home health care. Talk to the social workers at the hospital you just got discharged from for direction on where to get these services. There is a progressive movement trying to allow senior to remain in their homes rather than placing them in homes. Hopefully this may be of some use to you.

The caretaker was there either 6 or 8 hours a day. I cant remember but she became a great source of comfort to my mom who was more or less shut in. She became her dear friend in addition. She also did light housework, dishes, vacuuming. Things that were hard for my mom to do in the last couple years. Without her there would have been no way for my mom to stay in that house. With her cat.

Sending you a big hug. Considering everything you have going on, it sounds like you're doing an amazing job navigating all these changes. You have a good head on your shoulders and you know what's best for you and your fam, kitties and daughters included 😻

Hoping things improve for you. It sounds like your daughter has your best interests at hand but I understand how difficult it can be. Take time but see about making a decision, whether it be a in home caregiver or a facility.🩷🩷

PCA services will help you stay in your home. I agree with Morticia - take your time with this decision. It's hard to let a cat go after 7 or 12 years. They are family. My heart is with you ❤

Thanks to all of you for the kind words, prayers, and suggestions. I am being slow and methodical in processing all of this. I love my cats like children and will never discard them. So that is actually my primary concern. I don’t give a crap about my house or “stuff”. Daughter Joni (an only child) is attached to the cats too and is so kind but she is recently divorced, single mom to a 13 year old daughter with depression issues (plus 2 huge lovely golden doodles), allergic to cats (although she will take at least 1 maybe 2 if she can), and saddled not only with caring and worrying about me but my 90 year old parents and my only brother (who has no children)I have to figure out insurance, continuing to work time part time (if possible), and balance with medical appointments and treatments now. Thanks for listening. It really means so much. I thank you again. Being careful about eating. Good nutrition and healthy living now is also paramount.
