Has anyone else experienced weight gain by using the daily calorie suggestion given by FitBit? It is considerably less than what Fatsecret suggested, and I have gained 2 pounds already this week. I have gained before from not eating enough and still working out so I'm wondering if that's what is happening again.

The scale is not to be trusted. Haha, it depends on what those calories consisted of. While counting calories is an effective way to lose weight, certain foods will cause your body to react in certain ways. Different foods digest at different speeds, different types of carbohydrates can cause water retention etc. a 2 lb fluctuation in weight is normal. A week or 2 from now as long as you stick to diet and exercise you could step on the scale and see a 4 lb LOSS if whatever caused the fluctuation passes. I try not to rely on the scale to much to measure my progress. Looking in the mirror or taking photos and looking for changes visually is a much better way.

I hope that will be the case for me. I actually do feel bloated, and I may still be having some gastrointestinal issues from recent international travel. May be TMI, but I had a lot of problems with constipation while I was gone, and for a while after we got home. As far as calories, what you said makes a lot of sense because although I draw calories from lots of good things, it's a lot of different things.

Short term your weight can fluctuate for a number of reasons. However long term it really is mainly a calories eaten vrs calories burned equation. I'm also of the opinion that the makeup of those calories eaten in terms of fat/carbs/protein makes a difference. Fatsecret's suggested RDI for you may be high, it is for me and I also suspect my Fitbit might sometimes report a higher number of calories burned than is actually true.
