So it's Monday morning, October 1st. I have lost a total of 20 lbs over the course of 5 months, mostly because I have not made a FULL commitment to a true KETO approach. When I dedicate myself to a combination of DAILY Intermittent Fasting, Ketogenic WOE and calorie monitoring, I lose weight. My challenge has been falling into spontaneous carb consumption...not a binge or a pig-out, but a potato, nachos and salsa, a Jrs. cheesecake mini, a Mini can of Coke...you catch my drift. A single 'indulgence' at a random moment on any given day.

I know that once I do that, it takes several days to get back into Ketosis, if I was ever IN Ketosis to begin with.

I also started a second job to get me out of the house and active. I work 2 days a week at a city hospital in their Patient Experience department, it's a desk job. Too much sitting. I've been doing it fulltime and now part-time for 6 years and it has been HORRIBLE for my weightloss struggle. SITTING IS THE NEW SMOKING!

So now I am working 3-4 days a week at Homegoods. A nice job. Very physical. Lots of lifting, bending, twisting, reaching, walking, etc. I have 2 issues this morning:

They are over scheduling me and not listening to my request for 6 hour shifts instead of 8 hour shifts. I'm 64. They're killin' me. The other problem is the one I have ALWAYS run into: WOMEN co-workers. The MEAN GIRLS. The Cliques. I know my worth. I know my skill strengths, can verbalize and apply said skills. TWO supervisory women that I work with don't like that. My husband said to me that it's the same thing that I run into ALL THE TIME..."Annie, you're walking in the the door with SKILL...maybe more than they have and you're not afraid to say so...you're new and older...you're a THREAT." They don't speak to me and one of them, when she DOES, is quite nasty. The visual co-ordinators position was open that I am FULLY qualified for. Management knew I was interested in it but never spoke to me about it and instead quietly gave the job and increase in pay to another MUCH YOUNGER woman with limited experience. I had no idea until she started telling me what to do and I asked someone what was up. I was sad and angry at the same time. "Here we go again.", I thought. What ever joy and dedication I brought to this little job dissipated in a single moment like so much smoke. Women can be VERY mean.

So today, I took the day off from my hospital job and am hitting the pavement to find a replacement for what I thought was a great solution to my activity level AND a boost to my budgetary bottom-line. I am off to the Pottery Barn, William-Sonoma and Whole Foods. Wish me luck, fingers=crossed.

Anyone whose WOE is Ketogenic, modified or otherwise, cookbooks are not really a necessity.

Eat FAT in the way of BUTTER, MAYONNAISE, COCONUT OIL for cooking, OLIVE OIL for cooking and salads. SESAME OIL in very small amounts kicks up your Stir-Frying and Walnut Oil is delicious on salads as well. Watch ALL other condiments for SUGAR content.

Eat MEAT and EGGS. Leave the fat on it. Grilled-Roasted-Braised-SlowCooked, etc.

Eat GREEN VEGETABLES. Cooked, raw or in salads. Steaming is the preferred cooking method. ZIPLOC Steam-In Bags make perfectly steamed veggies in a few minutes in your Microwave every time.

Use REAL CREAM in your coffee.

Have BERRIES for your sweet tooth.

NO SUGAR OF ANY KIND as in CANDY, COOKIES, CAKE, SOFT DRINKS | NO POTATOES-RICE
NO CORN-POTATOES-CARROTS- USE SPARINGLY IN RECIPES | NO PASTA | NO BREAD, OATMEAL, GRAINS of ANY KIND.

Your hunger and craving for sweets WILL dissipate.
This is a very effective and very safe way to eat.
