Good news and not so good news all in one day yesterday, lol. Good news first. I had my 6 month A1C blood work and it is at 5.6!! I was 9.0 when I was diagnosed in May with Diabetes, 6.2 when I had my 3 month blood work done in August (so was below the 7.0 goal my endocrinologist wanted) and now I am at 5.6! I cannot wait to hear back from him to see what he has to say now :) (Test results are put in my file on line so was able to view them before he calls me) I first started just lowering carbs and calories and worked on losing weight to help control my A1C. I was determined to not go on meds. I succeeded on doing my own thing the first 3 months but wanted to do better. I attribute my continued and improved success to having come on this site and having heard so many good things about Dr. Jason Fung and researching him and following a low carb/fasting way of eating. THANK YOU KES (mskestrela)!! You actually were the one who brought me to looking into him. I had seen you post on a couple of peoples journals to check him out, so I did. This site does help, I have said it so many times and I am living/walking/breathing proof!! While not everything works for everybody, it sure doesn’t hurt to try and see if something works for you .
The not so good news is that it looks like I will need back surgery. About a month ago I started having severe pain in my right leg and then my lower leg and foot became numb. I have a difficult time walking and now have what they call drop foot. I have been seen several doctors and have had so many tests. You know how that works, start with your primary physician, go to an orthopedic doctor and then a neurologist and yesterday had to meet with the Neurosurgeon. The MRI showed that I do have damaged and bulging disks on both right and left side, L4 and L5 (The right being worse and that is why I am experiencing the pain and numbness more in that leg). I am having and EMG next Tuesday to try to pinpoint more where the nerve damage is coming from. He thinks that it may be a combination of both the pinching and bulging of the disks as well as potentially some neuropathy. I should know by the end of next week if surgery is the route he recommends taking.
In the meantime, I have an appointment this Friday with another neurosurgeon to get a second opinion from the MRI results. I also am starting some physical therapy today. The doctor is not optimistic that will help, but he said it can't hurt in the meantime while we are waiting on the EMG results. I am also starting taking meds to help with the pain. Can’t even sleep at night because when I lay down or sit too long the pain in my leg is excruciating. He does not want to wait too long if surgery is needed because the longer nerve damage is there, the longer it can take to heal or can cause permanent damage. That part scares me a little. It was funny though because he made a statement about why did I wait so long. Both my husband and I laughed. We didn’t wait long, it is the system and what you have to go through to get to this point. I have been non stop doctors/test for the past 3 weeks. My husband let him know I didn’t wait. (he knew I wouldn’t have said anything) lol
The good news if I do need surgery, the surgeries now a days are so much easier and safer. While the doctor was clear about risks, he did put my mind at ease from so many horror stories I had heard.
Sorry for the long post. Have a very blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving. We all have so much to be grateful for! 

Good weigh in this morning. (2.5lbs. putting in my journal entry this way because for some reason my weigh in didn't populate with my journal entry there, so re wrote it) Worked hard this week after having been on vacation the week before. Had a little set back Friday with my exercising when a set of stairs in my home and myself had a little "falling out"...stairs won. I have a pretty nasty bruise and bump and swelling and a bit of nerve issues. The doctor told me to keep it moving to get blood circulation moving. I don't have any problem moving around, the leg just feels like it weighs a ton and the foot drags a bit. If the tingling doesn't go away by tomorrow, I have to go see an orthopedic doctor. This is a minor thing (hopefully) and will go away soon. Things could be so much worse and are for so many. I did use the treadmill this morning and kept the pace up. I just hung on tight in case my leg gave out so I wouldn't go flying if it did :). Foot dragged quite a bit, but no pain at all, so kept going.

Have a great Monday all and may your journey with WOE and lifestyle be all you hoped it would be. Have a blessed day! :)
