(tw: talks if mental health and bingeing also poor grammar sorry)

even though I have lost weight I'm still gaining back at times which I know is normal. I only weight myself once a week normally on Sunday as per my doctor telling me to do so, because I have a few mental disorders and she's worried about me delvoping an eating disorder, but now I am starting to comfort eat and binge again due to my mental health declineing. Im already in contact with my doctor about fixing my medications to help with my mental state, but I would like to know if anyone has tips on how to either binge less or stop binging completely. If you can help I deeply appreciate it. thank you all have a blessed day!

I am really glad that you are working with a doctor to get a handle on bingeing. I've found, for myself, that identifying the stresses that make me binge have helped a lot and then working on finding other things to do. I used walking and physical exercise because my thinking was: I can do something unhealthy (binge) or I can do something healthy (walk). It helped a lot and started re-setting my relationship with food.

I find that once I start on a binge, it's almost impossible to stop - so I can't ever let myself start. If I can just eat something relatively harmless, sometimes the urge to binge will pass - like a pickle, some cherry tomatoes, or hot broth, a protein shake, iced coffee. Sometimes I'm able to distract myself with a task, just long enough to get me to the next actual mealtime. It can be torture, but it will be worth it.

Rethinking and finding tools to help you with healthier eating is key. I agree with other 2 comments. If you feel like bingeing, find a healthier alternative. Alot of times if you crave sweets, eat a protien. It is supposed to squash the craving. It works for me! Good luck on your journey.💜

The fact that you’ve been able to identify the relationship between your mental health and binge eating is a great start. I can also binge eat at times, especially when something is really good. I’ve recently started replacing snacks with carrots, cauliflower and nuts. So when I want to binge I only binge on the healthier choices. Soon after I start I realize I’m full and over it, I move on to doing something else. Walking or forcing myself to workout also helps to distract my mind. Good luck and well wishes. You can do this!!

These other comments are excellent. I find sweets make me depressed after the first short high. The experts tell us that high carbs turn to sugar in our bodies. A piece of whole wheat bread will turn to sugar in our body faster than table sugar. Also, wheat is not what it was a hundred years ago. It has hybridized over a thousand times and our bodies can't even recognize it as the original product of the staple of life. It causes inflammation now, whether you are particularly sensitive to it or not. By the way, low thyroid can cause mental disorders or at least contribute. Our mental, emotional, and physical parts seems to affect each other much more than we would wish. I have had plenty of problems in my life, so my heart goes out to you. Eating in a strict way surely does not solve all our problems, but it can have the effect of not adding more stress on us. You can private message me on my site if you want to talk privately. By the way, I will pray for you, if that doesn't offend you.

I would recommend checking out Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s YouTube videos. There are several studies linking processed snack foods and candy to poor mental health. He advocates a diet of greens beans onions mushrooms berries nuts and seeds. He recommends limiting animal products oils and processed foods. Although you don’t have to be strictly vegan in his plan. This could help you stay optimally healthy while providing micronutrient excellence.

You're making significant progress. Great job on your losses!! I love Dr. Berg on Youtube. He has really helped me home in on the biology behind cravings and how to avoid or reduce them. Just search "Dr. Berg cravings" on Youtube It's a four part series on Youtube. Also, he has helped me to break weight plateaus. I arm myself with super low cal but satisfying stuff. I love anything pickled, especially in the summer time. It's damn hot here, so I avoid getting stuck at the stove. I've been steaming beets and just throwing raw veggies in vinegar flavored with onion, bayleaf, salt and garlic. Lot's of ice tea with a little grapefruit juice or cranberry (sugarless) juices and splenda hits the spot. I love raw or dry roasted nuts. If I'm dying for a shake, I will blend lots of ice, fat free or lowfat milk, vanilla extract, dark cocoa power (no sugar) nuts (not too many) and sweetner. It's a HUGE cool filling shake (150 calories). I've started cutting up raw veggies and storing so when I think I'm not going to make it to my next meal, I chow down on that. Sometimes I can't finish my dinner because I've scarfed veggies, almond milk, and beef jerky in between. I find the low cal/low GI whole foods and try to make them tasty and fulfilling. I know working out or just maintaining some kind of active schedule is difficult. Even if you don't want to do anything, just tell yourself, "I'll walk 10 minutes." When I took up working out again, I kept trying to use that manual stair stepper at the gym. The first time I could only go 2- 5 minutes, now I can go 25 minutes on level 5 speed. Many people don't realize they need the help of a medical professional for mental health issues, so you are stepping up and doing what you know you need to do. A few steps back doesn't discount all of the steps forward you've made! You'll be great!
